How much will downtime cost your business? Common computer problems such as a hard drive crash, data corruption, virus, hacker, etc. can bring you to a screaching halt.

The expenses magnify if your office relies on a centralized server that goes down.
  • How many employees are affected?
  • How much business and how many man-hours are lost? Downtime can be crippling.

Online Server Backup Solution
If your server goes down, you'll likely lose one or more of these mission critical business functions:
  • Point of Sales (POS) System: can't take payments
  • Contact Manager: can't contact customers or suppliers
  • Customer Service System: can't access account info
  • Production File Server: can't access shared files

Still using an obsolete method to back up your server (tape, external or Zip drive, CD / DVD, etc.)? Not backing up at all? It's time you discover a superior backup solution.

Automated and offsite, Remote Data Backups is also much more secure, reliable and cost effective.

FEATURES:

Automatic File Backup
Traditional manual backup methods (tape, zip, CD-DVD, etc.) are tedious and time-consuming -- that's why they rarely if ever get done.

With our automatic backup service, you can be sure you are backing up all your critical data files every night offsite without even thinking about it.

Automatic Data Backup Options
Our software offers view backup software screen options for initiating automatic backups:
  • Automatic Backup Schedule
Set the days of the week and times for automatic backups to run (by default, every night at 9 pm).
  • Back up on Demand
Back up whenever and as often as you wish (at lunch, after completing a project, before & after a significant change, etc.) by clicking "Backup now".
  • Back up on Windows Exit
Choose to have our backup software prompt you whenever you log off or shut down. You can also right click on the system tray icon and "Run a backup, then Shut Down" when it completes.
  • Back up on connection to a Network
Perfect for laptop users, it automatically prompts for a backup when it detects a connection.
  • Run a backup, then exit Windows
From our System Tray icon, select this option to run a manual backup, then log off, shut down or restart Windows.
You can back up and restore your files as often as you wish, at no extra cost. Backups transfer only delta block changes - new files and changed file segments - so they are extremely fast and efficient.

We even send you an email warning if you fail to connect to our data center for 10 or more days. You can easily adjust the warning to send after as few as 3 days without a connection.

If there are network interrupts or outages, RDB will automatically reconnect on line drop and also offers mid-file restart, minimizing backup time even when Internet interruptions occur.

Fast & Easy File Restores
We empower you with multiple easy ways to immediately retrieve your data, an essential feature when choosing a backup service.

With media-based backup, you must physically retrieve tapes, disks or drives and sort through files & versions.

Some online backup services cue your file restores and make you wait hours - even days - for a confirmation email.

How to restore your files with RDB
File restores are fast, easy, flexible and reliable.
No need to call a tech or shuffle through your storage media mess.
  • Restore Specific File Versions
Simply open Remote Data Backups, click the Retrieve View, select the folders / file versions to retrieve (up to the last 10 versions or 30 days) and the destination, and click "Retrieve". File restores take just minutes.
    * Retrieve Viewing Options: View the most recent version of each file, files on your system on specific date, or all stored versions. View all files (including executable files) or data files only.
    * Retrieve Saving Options: Append existing filenames (Ex. "Win Orig.ini"); append files being retrieved (Ex. "Win Restore 1.ini"); or choose a different folder to retrieve.
  • Remote File Access
Use this handy browser-based feature to retrieve specific files to any computer with Internet Access. All you need is Java, your account number and Encryption Key.
  • Retrieve from a Shared Account
You can allow another Remote Data Backups user access to securely share selected files from your account and easily retrieve them through our program.
  • Retrieve Files to a Different Computer or New Hard Drive
Got a new hard drive or computer? "Re-establish your Previous Account" by downloading the software from our website and entering your account number and encryption key. Then click the Restore tab and select files / folders to retrieve.
  • Retrieve Archived Files
Did someone deselect critical files from your backups? You can retrieve these files within 30 days through our Extended File Archiving feature, a valuable safeguard against from disgruntled employees and human error.
  • Restore Your Entire System
Use our Easy System Restore feature (available on 10 & 30 GB plans) to make your new computer look EXACTLY like the old one -- programs, shortcuts, setting, everything! Just make sure the destination computer has the same (or similar) hardware configuration and operating system (including service packs). An invaluable time saver, when you need it most!

Fast, Efficient Online Backups
Our service combines best-of-breed hardware, redundant bandwidth, data compression and optimization technologies to provide consistently fast, reliable data backups and restores.

Delta Block Incremental backups
Our patented Delta Block Incremental technology scans your files to detect and transfer only compressed block-level changes within your files, along with any new files.
Ex. You have a 1000-record Excel spreadsheet (1 MB), add 30 new records and revise a few existing entries. Your backup transfers just over 3% (30 K) of the total file size.

Duplicate File Recognition: Save time, space
Another of our patented technologies, Duplicate File Recognition (DFR), identifies duplicate files saved in multiple locations (i.e. an email attachment stored in your .pst file and saved elsewhere on your C drive), and transfers and stores only one.

Our software also detects common program and Windows system files already stored at our data centers and associates them with your account, further optimizing initial full system backups.

Email Backup: Message-level transfers
Remote Data Backups optimizes the most critical and voluminous data for most companies: email. Our software transferrsOutlook .pst and Lotus Notes .nsf files on a message-level.

These features combine to save significant network time and backup space, making nightly backups and restores extremely fast and efficient - regardless of your connection speed.

Full Backup & System Restore
Less Downtime = More Productivity

Your computer's operating system can easily get corrupted and become unusable from a variety of causes, including viruses, software or hardware conflicts, system glitches and user error.

With Remote Data Backups' powerful System Restore feature (standard on our 10 & 30 GB plans), you can easily roll back your system to the way it was before your troubles started. Without it, you may be facing considerable downtime and expenses for an IT consultant to diagnose and fix your problems.

Our System Restore feature backs up every single registry setting within the Windows operating system itself! Protect Your Windows System

Common uses for System Restore include:
  • A program has stopped running reliably and you don't know why.
  • The computer’s registry settings have been altered and must be restored (i.e. unsuccessful installation of software, hardware, Service Pack, etc.).
  • Windows operating system errors or erratic behavior (virus infection, settings changed).
  • Your PC or hard drive is destroyed or lost, and you must restore your data and programs to a new computer — often a frustrating, time-consuming process.

Not only can you roll your entire operating system back to "the way it was" before things went wrong, but it also can be done without you losing any of the data you worked on up until your last backup. An excellent advantage over XP rollback and a great feature if you have to roll back more than a couple days.

If we can prevent you from having to perform a Windows re-install or from having to start from scratch just once, then Remote Data Backups will have saved you countless hours and dollars in both IT costs and downtime... and paid for itself many times over! Often just getting your system back to the way it was can be an unexpected, all-day, and very costly affair than can quickly run into hundreds or thousands of dollars.

When you have a data loss or a system crash, just follow our simple step-by-step instructions or call us toll-free, 24/7 and we will be happy to walk you through the entire restore process.

If your hard drive crashed, you could easily make the new drive look EXACTLY the way it did before it crashed... even without any of your original application installation disks! (only your Windows install disk is needed to access the Internet)

Our most recommended and cost effective backup solution is the 10 GB Full System Backup for $29.95/mo. simply because it includes our advanced Easy System Restore function. Our 30 GB Server Backup Plan also includes this function. Download a 30-day free trial today!

After all, what good is being able to recover your data if you can't use it?
Windows 2003 Server: Easy System Restore is not supported in Windows 2003 Server, due to the extensive security built into the OS.

Remote File Access
With Remote File Access, you'll enjoy the convenience of accessing your files from any computer with Internet access -- a valuable feature that separates us from other backup services.

Advantages of Remote File Access
  • Access important files (proposals, price sheets, etc.) while working at home, on the road or at a client's office.
  • Increase your efficiency, save time and money.
  • Easily and securely transfer files too large to email or copy to disk from one computer to another.
  • Securely share files with other users. Simply create a password (you can easily change it at any time) for others to use instead of your encryption key and they will have immediately access to your backed up data.
  • No additional hardware or software needed -- just a Java-enabled browser and an Internet connection.
  • To disable: under the Options menu, click Security, then uncheck "Allow files to be retrieved from a Web browser".

How Remote File Access Works 1. From any other computer with Internet access, click the Remote Web Access button in the left column on this page or the Support page.
(If you don't already have Java installed, click the Get Java » link below the graphic.)
2. On the secure login page, enter your account number and encryption key, or password if you have one set.
3. Select files to download.
4. Click the "Prepare Selected Files for Download" button.
5. Click the Download Files tab.
6. Right-click each file and save it on your computer.

Account and File Sharing
Access and exchange files between computers at your home, office, mobile and remote locations.

Anyone with multiple computers running Remote Data Backups can easily and securely share files with Account and File Sharing, included in all our backup plans.

File Sharing: 3 Simple Steps
1. Back up files on the account you want to share.
2. In the Options / File Sharing Permissions menu, add the account number that you want to view backup software screen grant access, to either view backup software screen a directory or the entire drive.
3. On the account you want to retrieve from, in the Retrieve view click view backup software screen "Explore another account's files" to access these shared files at any time.

File Sharing Example: Home and Office
  • At home, using your home computer and account:
    • Work on a file and back it up.
    • Share that file, directory or entire drive with your office computer's RDB account.
  • At the office, using your office computer and account:
    • Retrieve the file from another account.
    • Work on it, make changes to it, and back it up.
    • Share a directory or entire drive with your home account.
  • At home, retrieve your changes from the office account.
  • Repeat as many times as you want, 24/7.

Advantages of RDB's File and Account Sharing
  • Ease of use: It's easy to set up and transfer files between multiple accounts.
  • Always available: Since you access our mirrored data centers and not the shared computer directly, you don't even need to keep your computer on!
  • Fine-tuned sharing: Select files to share with each account: directories or entire drives.
  • Secure authorization: Only the accounts you list can access your files with their encryption key. You can remove a computer from your shared list any time.
  • Large storage: Share as much as your account holds, including large files.
  • Time savings: Quick access to your files from wherever you are (home, office, traveling, or computers not on the same network).
  • Not media-based: No need to install expensive drives or carry fragile disks.
  • Organizational data sharing: Share data at your company's remote locations with each other and HQ. Works great for franchises!
  • One-way file sharing: Remote access to your backup account from any computer on the Internet. Works like an FTP site without the complications.

Disadvantages of other File Sharing Systems
Other file transfer technologies are complicated, unreliable, insecure, time-consuming and/or costly, especially for larger files:
  • E-mail (typically limited to only 3 to 10 MB)
  • CD / DVD (takes time and costs 50 cents to $1 each time)
  • Jaz / Zip drive (must have drives on both computers; costly media)
  • FTP site (complicated to set up and use, succeptible to hackers, corruption, etc.)
  • Setting up a network (must both be at same location)

10-File Versioning
You can always "Go back in time" to retrieve up to 10 previous versions of any file you selected for backup, for up to 30 days (whichever occurs first).

Whether a file was changed, deleted or corrupted, you can select a previous version and restore it in seconds.
  • Keep constant track of historic data
  • Restore previous versions of accounting files, graphic files, proposals, presentations, corrupted files, etc.
  • No need to wait hours or days for your IT person
  • No time spent to track down files on backup media
  • Do it yourself as often as you'd like, immediately

If you have files that have not changed in 30 days, our backup system stores the most recent version as long as it is selected in the backup view.

File Restore Options
Finished selecting files to retrieve? Click view backup software screen Retrieve Options and you will see three choices:
  • Show most recent versions of all files (default setting)
Shows the latest backup of every file you have on your system.
  • Show files that were on my system on (mm/dd/yy)
Type a date to list all the versions of files (up to 10) backed up on that date.
  • Show all versions of all files
    • lists the 10 most recent versions of every file backed up within 30 days
    • lists any files that you deleted in the last 30 days
Immediate File Restores: Save time & IT support costs!
  • Employee Sabotage or Mistakes
Employees can accidentally or purposely change, manipulate, corrupt or delete your mission critical data (and/or your backups). Your data is protected by a high level of security. No one will be able to delete your backups ... not even if they have your encryption key, and nobody can delete any of your data off our servers.
  • Protect Remote Sales Info
If you assign computers to your remote or mobile work forces, you will be able to restore any files that have been changed or deleted in the last 30 days. You don't even need the computer itself to get the data back -- just use Remote File Access to restore the data whenever and wherever you want.
  • Recover from Virus Corruption
Restore your data or entire system to exactly the way it was before it became corrupted.
  • Restore accidentally changed or deleted files
It is easy to accidentally delete or overwrite an existing file without noticing for some time. Remote Data Backups can easily go back to 10 previous versions of any presentation, graphic, or other data file.
  • Recover Corrupted Outlook files
If a Microsoft Outlook .PST file reaches 2 GB, Outlook will crash. Microsoft's "2 GB cropping tool", may "fix" the file, but the file will not be editable. Remote Data Backups' File Versioning can restore your PST file so you can edit it and reduce its size.

Restore Deleted Files, Lost Data
Our service archives any data selected for backup that is deleted from your computer; you have 30 days to retrieve these files. You can also restore files deselected from your backup set for 7 days.

Consider it your "Extended Recycle Bin", an invaluable safeguard against disgruntled employees and accidents. It can often be overlooked, until you really need it!

How Extended File Recovery can save you time & money
  • Disgruntled or incompetent employees
Never ever underestimate the power of a disgruntled employee (or anyone else) to quickly jeopardize a company's future, simply by deleting all of the company's data (and/or their backups). Neither you nor your employees will be able to delete any backup data from our data centers -- a critical data security feature.
  • Accidental file deletions or overwrites
It is very easy and common to accidentally delete or overwrite your own files. Whether you were just re-saving a changed file or clearing space on your hard drive, if you deleted it within the last 30 days you can easily restore it. Simply choose the "Retrieve Options" button, and select the "Show All Versions of All Files" option. It will display the last 10 versions of every file that has been backed up in the last 30 days.
  • Grace period for deselected files
You may find yourself deselecting certain files from backup to stay below your file selection limit. They are available for retrieval for another 7 days after deselection.

Backup Email Alerts
Automated online backups are the perfect "set it and forget it solution"... almost.

A few factors can cause automated backups to stop:
  • Firewall changes that block RDB's connection;
  • You exceed your data size capacity;
  • Your Internet connection goes down;
  • Your computer was turned off when backups were scheduled to run, etc.

If your scheduled backup fails, Remote Data Backups stays open with an error message on the program's home screen.

But if you run our backup service on a server or other computer that doesn't have a user in front of it daily, or your user ignores the warning screen, it's important to be notified.

That's why we send you an email alert if your account does not connect to our data centers for a number of days; by default, it's 10, but you can easily change the duration from 3 to 999 days. (Just use the "click here" link on the software home screen.) We also email clients using 95% or more of their capacity.

Time permitting, we call clients who have not backed up for some time and help troubleshoot your problems. Our support staff is also available to help through our toll-free line, 24/7.

Some online backup services allow you to send email alerts from your email server. But not many computer have an email server, users are rarely able to successfully configure it, and when your backups aren't working, you likely can't send email either. Also, users become desensitized to "successful backup" emails.

Manage Multiple Backups
Does your company have multiple computers or locations? Want to be able to easily oversee backups on all your computers?

Whether you are a franchisor, large corporation or managed service provider, we have the perfect data management solution for you.

We provide multiple account owners with powerful, free and easy to use Corporate Extranet tools so headquarters can:
  • Customize Backup Executables with a predefined data set, an easy and foolproof solution for ensuring your users back up all their mission critical files. We can even brand the software with your logo and colors.
  • Monitor multiple backup accounts from a remote location. You can access backup account information including contact name, phone, e-mail, account number, account type, computer name, and the date of the last backup attempt.
  • Secure File Sharing between multiple accounts at your home, office, mobile or remote locations.
  • Remote File Access through a secure SSL connection, provided you have the encryption key for that account.
